The Ideal Customer Archetype | 10:00 - 11:30 AM
Do you ever wonder how top brands create irrational loyalty among their users? The world’s most profitable and well-known brands bond in highly emotional and compelling ways with the customers who are most likely to spend the most money with them.

Sol Marketing CEO and founder Deb Gabor leads this highly interactive workshop guiding attendees through identifying and profiling the customer who is most highly predictive of a startup’s success using the “Ideal Customer Archetype” methodology. Through the use of hands-on exercises, audiences learn to use this method to go beyond traditional demographic and firmographic profiles to hone in on behavioral and attitudinal attributes that enhance the climate of consideration for their brands and products.

Takeaways:

• Understanding the ideal customer archetype methodology
• Getting inside your customer’s head
• Segmenting and targeting customers
• Bonding emotionally with customers
• Becoming part of customers’ self concepts

During the session, Deb will guide audiences through the development of their company’s own ideal customer profile, which they can take with them to continue the customer targeting process for their companies.

Austin Startup Week is supported in part by Capital FactoryTechstarsGalvanize, and Janik Vinnakota LLP. If you see someone from their teams, give them a hug and hi-five!

A Startup's First Year: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly | 2:00 - 3:30 PM
Entrepreneurship is a way of life in Austin. Everyone you meet is building a mobile app or disrupting an industry. News headlines congratulate startups receiving hundreds of thousands (or millions) in funding each day. Sometimes it seems so commonplace that you'd think founding a company was easy. But don't be fooled.

Hear from three Austin startups, Sandbox Commerce, DivInc and Gallivnt, about the blood, sweat and tears that went into their first year building their startups. They'll share the brutally honest, behind-the-scenes look at how they pushed through when things got tough, and why they wake up to fight for their company's success each day. Get ready to remove your rose-colored glasses because the road of entrepreneurship is no easy feat. Is it even worth it? You'll be surprised by their answers.

Creating Digital Connections that Foster Human Interactions | 2:00 - 3:30 PM
Digital communities and products designed for sharing, commenting and “like” accumulation have been smash hits. But these same tools have failed to consistently foster connections that move from the digital to the human realm, proving to be a driver of, instead of a solution to, human loneliness.

While often satisfying, sharing and garnering in a permanently interconnected world is a poor substitute for real human interaction, a substitute that also creates pressure to create a digital façade of happiness and success that has little to do with our real world existence.

A new generation of technology startups seek to address this phenomenon, creating tools and communities designed not to motivate online interaction, but to create offline connections. From the dating app Bumble’s move to Bumble BFF, to NextDoor’s successful efforts to build neighborhood community, attempts to be an anti-facebook are taking off. The expectation isn’t to cure loneliness, but a new generation of entrepreneurs are certain the internet can be part of the solution, instead of driving the problem.

We will seek to answer the questions:
1. Can technology be a solution to, instead of driver of, loneliness
2. Why have social networks failed to create real world connections?
3. How are new companies innovating to become part of the solution?
